Eleven shades, from slate-50 to slate-950

Tailwind slate colors

Tailwind CSS 4.3.3 defines eleven slate shades in OKLCH, from slate-50 (#f8fafc) to slate-950 (#020618). On them white text passes WCAG AA from slate-500 to slate-950, and black text from slate-50 to slate-400. Recolor (recolor.page) shows the scale on a real page.

Text on slate, and slate as text

For slate text the same lines hold in reverse: on white, use slate-500 or darker; on black, slate-400 or lighter. Contrast does not care which color sits behind.

Tailwind ships nine grays, and slate is the one with a blue hint: its chroma never passes 0.046.

None of the eleven leaves sRGB, so each hex matches its OKLCH value.
