Same flow, your own page as the preview, and a Coolors link opens in it

A Coolors alternative that previews on your own site

Recolor (recolor.page) works like Coolors, Space for a new palette, locks, adjusting, reordering and a palette in the URL, but its preview is a real web page you load by address or as an HTML file. It is free with 2 to 10 colors and no account, and a Coolors link opens in it. Coolors does more around the palette: photos, shades, a library, apps and print exports.

What Coolors does better

Coolors is a bigger tool, and for much of the work around a palette it is the better one:

  • Palettes from photos. Its image picker takes an upload, an image address, the camera or an Unsplash photo.
  • Shades and color detail. Every color opens 25 shades from white to near black, conversions, harmonies and a name; the site lists more than 800 named colors.
  • A library. Explore has trending palettes with AI search, and an account keeps palettes in projects and collections: 10 palettes on the free plan, unlimited with Pro.
  • Seeing palettes in designs. The Visualizer paints UI screens, branding, typography, patterns and illustrations, and you can upload your own SVG to recolor.
  • Exports for design tools. PDF and PNG sheets, ASE swatches for Adobe apps and SVG, next to CSS and Tailwind.
  • Apps. An iOS app, a Figma plugin and an Adobe extension.
  • Pro. For $3 a month billed yearly, or $5 monthly, Pro adds up to 10 colors, harmony methods, AI credits, palette contrast and variations, all Visualizer designs, more export options and no ads.

If your palette ends up in a brand guide, a print file or a Figma library, those count.

Where Recolor fits

Recolor fits the moment you want to know what a palette does to a page that exists: your site, a client's site, a staging build or a saved HTML file. Each press of Space repaints that page, with the page's main color on swatch 1, its shades kept together and its text kept readable; How Recolor repaints a page explains the engine and Which sites load shows it on 16 real sites. Every color count from 2 to 10 is free, nothing needs an account, and the export includes a Tailwind v4 @theme block, shown with the rest on Export formats.

What it leaves out is everything in the list above: no photos, no shades, no library beyond the 50 palettes saved in your browser, no apps and no print exports.

Recolor uses Coolors' URL format: hex codes without #, joined by hyphens. Swap the domain and the palette opens in Recolor, on its landing sample, ready for you to load your own page:

URL
https://coolors.co/264653-2a9d8f-e9c46a-f4a261-e76f51
https://recolor.page/#264653-2a9d8f-e9c46a-f4a261-e76f51

Pasting the whole Coolors address after recolor.page/# works too, and so does a link to a Coolors palette page, coolors.co/palette/..., since Recolor reads the last run of hex codes it finds. The way back is the Coolors tab in Recolor's Export panel, which writes the Coolors link for the palette on screen. The details are on the URL format.

Using the two together

A common round trip: find or extract a palette in Coolors, open it in Recolor, load your site and press Space with the colors you like locked until the page looks right, then take the Coolors link back to save it in a Coolors collection or export it as ASE or PDF. For the code, Recolor's own exports or turning a Coolors palette into CSS, Tailwind or SCSS cover it. Other tools worth a look, Adobe Color, Paletton, Color Hunt, Huemint and Realtime Colors, are compared on Palette generators compared.

Common questions

Is Recolor a free alternative to Coolors?

Yes, for generating palettes and seeing them on a real page: every feature is free, with 2 to 10 colors and no account. It does not replace Coolors' library, photo picker, apps or print exports.

Can Recolor open my Coolors palettes?

Yes. Swap coolors.co/ for recolor.page/# in a palette's link. Palettes saved in a Coolors account are opened there first, then shared as a link.

Can Coolors preview a palette on my own website?

No, as seen on October 8, 2026: its Visualizer paints built-in designs and SVG files you upload, not a website or an HTML page.

Does Recolor make palettes from photos like Coolors?

No. Recolor generates palettes and takes them from links or from the page you load (Use site colours), not from images.

Do I need a paid plan for 10 colors in Recolor?

No. Recolor has no paid plan; a palette can have 2 to 10 colors for everyone. Coolors' free plan generates up to 5.

Can I send a palette from Recolor back to Coolors?

Yes. The Export panel's Coolors tab gives the Coolors link for the palette on screen.

Does Recolor have a mobile app?

No. It runs in the browser, phones included, where the toolbar takes two rows.
