October 8, 2026: docs, guides and palettes

  • These pages: the docs, guides to website palettes, comparisons with other palette tools, and a gallery of named palettes with their hex codes and code to paste.
  • The app page now has a short introduction that readers without JavaScript and search engines can read.
  • An address that does not exist is reported as "The site could not be reached" everywhere; before, a missing domain could show as a server error.
  • Unknown addresses on recolor.page answer with a real "not found" page instead of the app.
  • The fetcher's user agent now points at its own page, which explains why it visited a site.

October 8, 2026: a new interface

  • One design system for the whole app: light cards on a grey ground, one blue button per view, the Figtree typeface.
  • Site colours, Saved palettes and Export open as panels at the right that follow the palette while you work.
  • Export has a tab per format and an explicit Copy; Export formats shows each one.
  • Upload is now two steps, Choose file and Load, so the asset base URL can be set first.
  • On phones the toolbar takes two rows, with the rest under More.

October 7, 2026: launch on recolor.page

  • Recolor went live at recolor.page, with www redirecting to it.
  • Swatches can be dragged into a new order, or moved with Shift and the arrow keys.
  • Each swatch shows its nearest CSS color name and whether black and white text pass WCAG AA on it.
  • Site colours lists the page's colors and pins any of them to a swatch, or keeps it as it is.
  • Export writes the palette as CSS variables, a Tailwind v4 @theme block, SCSS, JSON, a hex list, a Coolors link or a link to the view.
  • Palettes can be saved in the browser, up to 50.
  • Animate changes and Grey images joined the Mapping panel; page loads are rate limited and briefly cached.

October 7, 2026: live repaint

  • The product was named Recolor.
  • A loaded page now repaints in the palette as you press Space: every color on it becomes a CSS variable, and a new palette rewrites the variables. How Recolor repaints a page explains the engine.
  • Shades of one hue move together, text stays readable, and greys take a tint of the first color.
  • The Mapping panel arrived with Strength, Neutral tint and Use site colours; see the mapping.
  • Space and undo work while the page in the preview has the focus.

October 7, 2026: loading real pages

  • Any public web address loads into the preview through Recolor's Worker, which puts the page's stylesheets inline and passes its fonts on.
  • An HTML file can be uploaded or dropped on the preview, with an asset base URL for its relative links.
  • A Scripts switch loads a page with or without its JavaScript.
  • Every failure explains itself in plain words, with Retry; see Loading a page.
  • Links inside a loaded page open in the preview, and ?site= in Recolor's address loads a page on start.

October 7, 2026: the palette generator

  • Space generates a palette of 5 colors from a color scheme and a ladder of lightness; locked colors stay.
  • Each color can be adjusted with hue, saturation and lightness sliders or a hex code, copied, regenerated alone, moved and removed, and a + adds one between two colors, from 2 up to 10.
  • Undo and redo cover 100 steps.
  • The palette lives in the URL in Coolors' format, so a Coolors link pastes in; see the URL format.
  • 3 sample pages show the palette on a landing page, a dashboard and a blog article.
